Matcha Bullet Tea Latte
On the hunt for something creamy, delicious and GOOD for your brain, energy levels and overall health? Look no further, I'm so excited to share a tasty morning beverage that treats the body right but also tastes good too. It's my mission to make health super cool, easy and deeply delicious. Here's my take on how-to invite matcha into your life. (it's also a great alternative to a bullet coffee - if you are already on that train)
I’ve been on and off the wagon with caffeine a lot. Some days, I feel like it helps me focus and multitask the to-do list. Other days, it makes me feel like a crazy person. Antsy, agitated and even sweaty. So lately, when I’m needing a little pick-me-up, I’ve been opting for a gentler source of caffeine that also boasts incredible health benefits.
Relatively new on the scene, matcha is not as well known as coffee, but when you weigh the pros, cons, and health benefits, even die hard coffee drinkers can see that matcha makes quite a case over your morning brew.
Here's what you need to know:
Matcha contains L-Theanine, which helps your body to process caffeine differently. It provides a less jittery, more sustained energy boost – with no crash at the end and improves focus and concentration. (Yes, please!)
Matcha features much higher levels of antioxidants, which protect against disease and aging. It’s one of the very best sources of antioxidants in the world!
Matcha helps boost metabolism and burns fat by increasing the rate at which your body burns calories. (Say what?!)
Matcha is easy to make. All you need is a pot and a blender. It doesn't have to be a Vitamix. You can get some free exercise and whisk the sh!t outa it in the pot, but the frothy texture, you'll love the most, is created in a blender and is SO worth it. Don't believe me? Try it once and you'll never go back. (let me teach you about texture my friends)
Matcha provides fibre and nutrients that coffee does not, including chlorophyll, vitamin A and vitamin C.
Coffee breath be gone…. enuff said with that one.
Not sure if it needs vanilla? Let me tell you – you want it. Not only does it boost the flavour, but it also adds a hint of sweetness, without the calories.
Here's what you need:
1 cup almond or coconut mylk (FYI- "mylk" is the correct spelling for plant derived milk)
1 cup water
2 teaspoons of pure, unsweetened matcha powder (I get my matcha at Costco, but you'll need a friend to share this bag with, because it's as big as your head – no joke, but incredible value!!!)
1 tbs of pure unpasteurized honey or maple syrup (you can also use stevia or agave to taste)
1 tsp of coconut oil
1 tsp of ghee (clarified butter)
1/2 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
Here's what to do:
Put all the ingredients into a pot and heat it on the stove until steaming. Once hot, transfer to a blender and blend for 10-15 seconds. The result is a frothy delight that your body will thank you for and your mouth will want more of.
Hot tip for your hot tea?
Psssst. Did you know you can replace the matcha with pretty much any other powder? From spirulina to turmeric (see below) to cocoa powder, you would be surprised how many tasty flavours can be created with a little healthy fat, non-dairy mylk and some fun colourful powder!
Healthy doesn't have to be hard or feel depriving. I'm always on the hunt for new ways to help you create a feel good lifestyle that is efficient, easy and so so delicious. Let me know how I can help.
Matcha happiness,
